Should We Take Brain Vitamins Brain Supplements ?

In May, June and July are the months for elementary school children, junior and senior high school experiencing final exams. Usually not only the children are undergoing stress in these months but especially their parents. Like people wake up late, parents started looking for solutions that can improve the intelligence of children in an instant. But that is not a problem if the way are still legitimate. The most widely used are by consume brain supplements or so-called brain vitamins.

Brain Vitamins or brain supplements consists of neurotransmitters, vitamins, minerals or fatty acid that are believed to improve the quality of the brain. Included are toddler milk who has an special addition such as DHA (docosahexaenoic) or AA (arachidonic acid).

Before we return to the topic of brain supplements let us know in advance about the factors that influence the thought processes and memory. Thought processes and memory is a continuous mechanism and can not stand alone. This is because in process of thinking there is involvement all of work processes of the brain include motor, sensory, and association and not leave neurotransmitters (substances that conduct signals from one nerve to another nerve causing stimulation). Here is a list of some neurotransmitter involved in the process of thinking and memory:

  • Acetylcholine: working mainly on voluntary movement (voluntary movement which realized) through sympathetic pathways.
  • Norepinephrine: predispose a person to stay awake or wake from sleep. This neurotransmitter is also running in the sympathetic pathway.
  • Dopamine: role in voluntary movement and motivation to the feelings of desire, satisfaction, associated with addiction and love.
  • Serotonin: role in emotion, high memory awareness, sleep, and body temperature regulation.
  • GABA: inhibit motor nerves.
  • Glycine: role in movements reflexes and motor movements of the body.
  • Neuromodulator: Its important in the transmission / delivery of sensation, especially pain.

The learning process is indeed a complicated process and can not act alone. In the history of psychiatry and child development explained that in addition to the factors above, a person's intelligence is also influenced by genetic and their growth while in the womb and the lives of his first five years (toddler age). This is because in this age occurs brain development are very large so if there are problems in that time it will have great impact on his intelligence.

So whether by supplementation for the brain we can obtain a sharp mind instantly? The answer is no. The main purpose of the brain supplement is to provide for those who are experiencing shortages. For example is the provision of infant milk containing DHA and AA for preterm infants or premature; serotonin within the brain or vitamin supplements actually intended for people who have senile or dementia.

So how to educate children?

Its easy and simple. A parent to do is enter the impulse as much as possible to the child so that more impulses that enter, the more well synapse (connection between nerves) are formed so that the learning process more vibrant. In a short sentence can be said that the more learned, the more experience. Experience is an invaluable teacher. Therefore, do not prevent your child in the learning process. Learn can from anywhere and anytime. And of course the parent should take part. Why? Because the father and mother have a figure that can not be replaced by anything and anyone, including the baby sitter or nanny.

It is also equally important is nutrition. Eat healthy nutrients in balance is necessary. If this diet can be maintained properly so we do not need to make additional expenditures to buy expensive supplements or vitamins.

Here are some foods that are rich in nutrients for the brain:

  • Nuts: it has a monounsaturated fat that maintains the arteries clean of plaque and good to improve mood because fat increases the serotonin in the blood. Eat just enough that is one ounce or the same capacity with 12 walnuts or 24 almonds equivalent to 3.3 to 4.4 years younger.
  • Fish: especially wild salmon, whitefish, tilapia, catfish, flounder, mahi-mahi. Inside the fish, especially salmon there are omega-3 fatty acids. Consumption of 13.5 ounces for 1 week to 3 meals per person equivalent to 2.8 years younger. If the price are expensive, can be replaced with other fish but it takes greater numbers.
  • Soy beans: soy beans contain proteins that are good for the heart and arteries as well as fiber and fat are good for the body. Consumption 1 cup of soy nuts a day is equivalent to 0.4 years younger.
  • Tomato juice or spaghetti sauce from native tomatoes: Tomatoes have folic acid, lycopene and other nutrients that can keep arteries healthy. Eight ounces of tomato juice or 2 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce of native tomatoes equals 1 year younger.
  • Olive oil, peanut oil, fish oil, flaxseed, avocado: Contain Monounsaturated fatty acids are good for the heart. This fat if consumed in 25% of total daily caloric intake is better or equal to 3.4 years younger.
