Healthy with Antioxidants
You may often hear the phrase ad "Fight free radicals with antioxidants" in newspaper and electronic media. Some of you probably know about antioxidant but some does not know about this. Society may be curious about antioxidant, what is antioxidants and its benefits?
Before we discuss about antioxidants, we must know first what is called free radicals. Free radicals are groups of atoms which have lone pair of electrons on the outer and clusters are formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules.
These free radical compounds can be formed by the chemical process that occurs in the body, such as oxidation processes, cell metabolism, exercise and excessive inflammation. The danger of this free radical is lone pair of electrons are very reactive and can react with important cellular components like DNA and cell membranes.
This can cause cell death or weaken the cell function, thus leading to a disease. Oxidative effects of free radicals can cause inflammation and premature aging. Lipids should keep the skin fresh turn into lipid peroxides react with free radicals because of accelerating aging. Cancer was caused by reactive oxygen species that essentially spurred a carcinogenic substance, as the main factors of cancer.
To prevent this free radical damage, the body has a system called antioxidant protection. Antioxidants are molecules that can safely bind with free radicals in the body before the cells become damaged vital. In addition antioxidants can also be defined as a substance that can inhibit or slow the oxidation process that occurs on free radicals. Oxidation process is a natural event that occurs in nature and can occur everywhere not least in our bodies.
Antioxidant can be divided into two major categories of vitamins antioxidant and enzymes antioxidant. Antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalane and glutathione peroxides (GSH.Prx). More popular antioxidant vitamins as antioxidants compared than enzymes. Antioxidant vitamins include alpha tocopherol (vitamin E), beta carotene and ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
Superoxide dismutase play a role in the fight against free radicals in the mitochondria and cytoplasm by reducing superoxide form. Free radicals SOD will work more actively with poliferon obtained from tea consumption. Enzyme that converts hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen is catalane. It functions neutralize toxic peroxide hydrogen and prevent the formation of CO2 bubbles in the blood. GSH.Prx containing Se (selenium). Se obtained in fish, eggs, chicken, garlic, wheat, corn, rice, and vegetables that grow in soil. Too high dose of Se can be toxic.
Vitamin E acts as a source of antioxidants that work to prevent lipid per oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids in the cell membrane and oxidation of vitamin A also helps maintain fertility. Vitamin E is stored in fat tissue and can be obtained from vegetable oils, especially wheat, beans, grains, green vegetables, and fish oil. Daily requirement of Vitamin E at 15 IU for men and for women is 12 IU.
Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is water-soluble vitamins. Usually found in many citrus fruits, cabbage, spinach, kiwi, and strawberries. Daily requirement is 60 mg.
Beta carotene is the main source of vitamin A which is mostly derived from plants. Beta carotene is highly found in carrots, egg yolks, milk, tomatoes, and peaches.
So, start assessing our daily food. Fill our bodies with substances that contain antioxidants to counteract free radicals.
